Here is how this monster of science works. That is indeed cutting edge technology and we can go way further than that. Maybe someday we will be able to have holographic video talks with our friends on phone.
They already can project different things like statues and even moving ones like a human running. However we got to develop some kind of 3D scanner that would track our motions and pass on the picture on the projector. That would be a real revolution in phone industry.
Do not do that at home though spinning mirror is very dangerous when spins at thousands RPMS. Besides, it can break after some time of use.
