Intel’s latest Nehalem desktop processors based on the new microarchitecture will be branded as Intel Core i7 processors which include an extreme edition version. It features the Intel Hyper-Threading Technology also called as simultaneous multi-threading that is capable of handling about eight software “threads” on four processor cores.
“The Core name is and will be our flagship PC processor brand going forward,” said Sean Maloney, Intel Corporation executive vice president and general manager, Sales and Marketing Group. “Expect Intel to focus even more marketing resources around that name and the Core i7 products starting now.”
The devices equipped with this new microarchitecture will offer high performance and energy efficiency.
The renowned Intel Core processor brand name has gained preference over several years. The new Intel Core i7 processor aims at high-performance desktop PCs and carries a different black logo for Intel’s high-end extreme edition, processor model numbers will be included to differentiate each chip.
Devices based on this microarchitecture are said to be in production in the fourth quarter of this year.
