LiMo Foundation has announced the launch of new mobile phone based on its operating system. The seven new LiMo-compliant phones include four from NEC, two from Panasonic, and one from Motorola. With this latest announcement, LiMo has 21 handsets in total.
Motorola Motozine ZN5; NEC Forma N906i, N906iμ, N906iL, N706i; and Panasonic Forma P906i and P706iμ are the products that have gained the LiMo platform, which is the industry’s first collaboratively developed Linux-based operating system for mobile devices.
For Motorola phone, this platform offers a combination of a high-quality calling functionality and camera capability, heralding the forthcoming Mobile 2.0 experience for global consumers.
“The combination of LiMo’s transparent governance model, balanced development model and extensive mobile industry heritage sets it apart and has garnered strong industry support and engagement. This next wave of LiMo handsets points to the innovation that will flow as the industry coalesces on the LiMo Platform,” stated, Morgan Gillis, Executive Director, LiMo Foundation.
LiMo Platform promises to offer international 3G/High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) roaming capabilities, GPS connectivity, mobile TV and advanced video streaming as well as secure payment and advanced mail functionalities on the higher-resolution displays and intuitive user interfaces.
In the journey to establish its strong presence in the market, LiMo-compliant mobile phones are largely available in the Asian market, especially China, whereas some of the handsets are also available in the US. The NEC and Panasonic handsets are available in Japan.
